How do you feel after winning that Millennial vs Gen-Z fight on Twitter? See heads swelling! Hope you akant is doing well sha.

I know you just got this job at this fintech and you have a long todo list

  1. Move out of mummy’s house
  2. Buy a car
  3. For the smart ones, invest in the investments you understand and in coins
  4. Travel
  5. Japa!!
  6. etc
  7. Flex

But this money dey finish fast. That’s why (3) is a big deal. This blog isn’t on financial advice so I’ll pause there.

Let’s talk about number (1) though. Yes, you want to move out of the “annoying” family house so you can have “space”. Something is pushing you suddenly. You can live on your own now and your indomie noodles skills aren’t so bad. I am not saying you shouldn’t move, actually, you should but use your church mind abeg.

You people reach out to agents with your full chest, “I want a serviced mini-flat in Lekki or Yaba in a gated estate with a swimming pool at 400k”. Maybe I am exaggerating but that’s what agents get. OK. Agents still send you options, of course with their ridiculous fees added. Immediately, 50% of you disappear, about 10% don’t mind (omo baba olowo) and the remaining 40% keep trying other agents hoping to find a “deal”. Deals are deals and are found one in a thousand times. Stop roaming like spirits!

We want to help solve this problem.

The solution is simple — Share. Wait! I know you’ve seen options to share with heavy expenses or heard stories of bad experiences sharing. Some of you have PTSD from roommate experiences in what we call University so sharing is a no-no. The thing is you shouldn’t be spending anywhere more than 30% of your income on rent. For now, a 3-bedroom apartment with no long list of extra costs attached, shared by 3 people in the city center will offer more value than a one-bed flat kilometers away and at the same price. There’s the added advantage of not having to buy several home appliances at the same time also.

At Liveable, as part of our work to reduce the cost of renting, we’re building an algorithm to match Gen-Z housemates based on location and personality types. We’ve seen this work elsewhere at over 90% success so except village people are part of the problem, you’re more likely to get a great match than not.

If you’ve been seriously looking for a studio or one-bedroom apartment endlessly and will be open to sharing apartments with people like yourself, we have a solution that you’d love without unreasonable expenses. Please fill this form in 2 minutes. We’ll attend to responses as they come in.

Ps: Liveable is innovating to reduce home rentals costs in Lagos. To see other ways we’re doing this, please read this here: Rent a house in Nigeria: The best way to rent a house in Lagos | Medium

To our followers, this in no way replaces our attempt to remove crazy fees from renting. In fact, it is one more step towards the goal.

With love,

K
